NEW HAMPTON, Iowa – July 20, 2016 – Concrete patching on southbound U.S. 218 from George Wythe State Park in Waterloo to the Iowa 27/Iowa 57/Iowa 58 interchange will begin Monday night July 25. The contractor will utilize lane closures to complete the patching in stages within the following allowable hours: Sunday nights from 10 pm until 7 a.m. and between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. weekdays (Monday through Friday). Weather permitting, the project is expected to be completed by late August, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s New Hampton construction office.
The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
