I-80 ramp closures in Council Bluffs scheduled for Aug. 30
COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa – Aug. 26, 2016 –The Iowa Department of Transportation will close the westbound Interstate 80 to southbound I-29 ramp (Exit 4) beginning 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 30, weather permitting, for interstate road construction work. The ramp will reopen at approximately 6 a.m. Friday, Sept. 2. Travelers should follow the posted detour to access I-29 southbound, according to the Iowa DOT’s District 4 Office.
Prior to the westbound I-80 closure, construction crews will move a crane at midnight on Tuesday, Aug. 30. Eastbound I-80, between south- and northbound I-29 splits, will be closed. A detour will also be in operation for this closure. The Iowa DOT expects to reopen the eastbound lanes by 2 a.m.
The Iowa DOT is in the process of reconstructing I-80, I-29 and I-480 in the Council Bluffs metropolitan area. This comprehensive interstate redesign will modernize the highway system and improve mobility and safety of approximately 18 miles of interstate. Motorists are encouraged to allow for extra travel time while this interstate improvement takes effect. If you would like more information about detours and traffic impacts visit the program website, www.councilbluffsinterstate.iowadot.gov/.
The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
