Access from Iowa 21 to Shaulis Road west of Iowa 21 in Waterloo to close beginning Sept. 16 #iatraffic

NEW HAMPTON, Iowa – Sept. 14, 2016 – Construction work for adding paved turn lanes and signals at the intersection of Iowa 21 and Shaulis Road in Waterloo will require closing and detouring traffic beginning Friday, Sept. 16, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s New Hampton construction office.

Traffic impact

  • 16: Shaulis Road traffic will be detoured around the work zone by traveling from the intersection of Shaulis Road and Kimball Avenue, south on Kimball Avenue to Orange Road, east on Orange Road to Hammond Avenue, then back north on Hammond Avenue to  Shaulis Road. Access from Iowa 21 to Shaulis Road west of Iowa 21 will be closed until late October.
  • At the end of September: Access from Iowa 21 to Shaulis Road east of Iowa 21 will also be closed, utilizing the same detour, until late October.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
