Iowa DOT pilots new park and ride location at Kirkwood Community College
AMES, Iowa – Nov. 9, 2016 – The Iowa Department of Transportation has begun implementation of the Iowa Park and Ride System Plan. As a part of this implementation process, the Iowa DOT is launching a new park and ride location at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids. The new park and ride site is open to the public and free of charge. Park and ride lots can be used as places to park your car when connecting with car pools, van pools, and public transit.
The park and ride lot is located immediately southeast of the intersection of Kirkwood Boulevard Southwest and 66th Avenue Southwest and is identified by signs and special pavement markings. The location is also advertised on the Iowa DOT’s interactive park and ride system map.
This park and ride service is a partnership between Kirkwood Community College and the Iowa DOT, which is a great example of how organizations can work cooperatively to provide transportation enhancements to the public.
This park and ride location is ideal due to the number of students and commuters traveling between Cedar Rapids and the Iowa City/Coralville/North Liberty area. The lot is located on Cedar Rapids Transit route #7 and includes amenities such as a sheltered bus stop and lighting.
