Iowa DOT auction to be held Nov. 4 in Ames


AMES, Iowa – Oct. 25, 2017 – More than 50 vehicles and a variety of shop and office items will be sold by the Iowa Department of Transportation at an auction Saturday, Nov. 4, beginning at 9 a.m. in Ames.

Complete information about the auction has been posted on the Iowa DOT’s website at www.iowadot.gov/auction/.

The sale will be held in the auction building south of the Iowa DOT's sign shop on South Fourth Street. Vehicles and equipment to be sold are from the Iowa DOT, Iowa State University, cities, and counties. 

All items are sold “as is” and without warranty, all known defects are clearly disclosed.

Vehicles to be sold include pickup trucks, sedans, station wagons, SUVs, vans, and minivans.

Motorized equipment for sale includes motor graders, loaders, and skid steer loaders.

Miscellaneous equipment in the auction includes band saws, drill presses, welders, V-plows, and much more.

Office equipment is also being included in this sale. Items to be sold include bookcases, file cabinets, and radios, among other items.

Auction items may be inspected at the sale site from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 3, and from 7 to 9 a.m. the day of the sale.

Please bring a driver’s license or state-issued identification card with you to the sale. The information from your driver’s license will be scanned into the system and a bid number will be printed for you to use at the auction. For those without a driver’s license, information will be entered manually.

A $200 deposit is required for all vehicles purchased at the sale. Buyers have five business days to pay the balance. Final payment for all other items is due the day of the sale. Payment for the items can be made in cash, cashier's check, or certified check. Personal or company checks will be accepted, if accompanied by satisfactory identification. We do not take credit card payments. When needed, “in transit” paper license plates will be furnished by the Iowa DOT after final settlement has been made. 

Sales tax will be collected on nonvehicle purchases. Dealers must provide tax-exemption numbers to be exempted from the tax. All items must be removed from Iowa DOT property within five business days of the sale. Staff is available from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Thursday and from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Friday.

Lynch Auction Co. of Boone will conduct the auction. Coffee, sandwiches, and cold drinks will be available for purchase at the auction site.
