Intersection closure at old U.S. 61 and 170th Street near Louisa-Muscatine Community Schools in Louisa County is scheduled for April 9 #iatraffic


MOUNT PLEASANT, Iowa – March 28, 2018 – Road reconstruction at old U.S. 61 and 170th Street (near the Louisa-Muscatine Community Schools in Louisa County) will require closure of the intersection beginning at 8 a.m. Monday, April 9, until early May, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Mount Pleasant construction office.

Motorists will be directed around the work zone onto one of the following signed detour routes. (See map.)

  • Motorists traveling south on new U.S. 61 who wish to access Louisa-Muscatine Community Schools from the intersection of old U.S. 61 and 170th Street will need to turn west on Iowa 305 to southbound Louisa County Road X-43, and then travel east on 170th Street to the Louisa-Muscatine Community Schools.
  • Motorists traveling north on old U.S. 61 who wish to access Louisa-Muscatine Community Schools from the intersection of old U.S. 61 and 170th Street will need to travel west on Iowa 92 to northbound Louisa County Road X-43, and then travel east on 170th Street to the Louisa-Muscatine Community Schools.
  • Residents living along old U.S. 61 and south of 170th Street will have access to a temporary gravel detour road to connect to the new U.S. 61 on- and off-ramps near the Louisa-Muscatine Community Schools.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
