CHEROKEE, Iowa – April 18, 2018 – A bridge deck overlay project on the U.S. 18/U.S. 71 bridge over the Little Sioux River in Spencer will require closure of the northbound lanes, shifting traffic to the southbound lanes, and reducing traffic to one lane in each direction starting at 7 a.m. Monday, April 23, until late May 2018, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Cherokee construction office. There will be an 11-foot lane width restriction in the open lanes in the construction zone.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
