CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa. – April 9, 2018 – The Iowa Department of Transportation will hold a public information meeting on April 23 to provide an overview of the I-80/I-380 Systems Interchange Project and planned construction activities that will occur in 2018. The project is in Johnson County at the junction of I-80, I-380 and U.S. Highway 218. Construction for this project is scheduled through 2024. It is the intent of the Iowa DOT to hold a similar meeting every spring for each subsequent year of construction.

The I-80/I-380 Systems Interchange Project is a comprehensive redesign that will modernize the interchange and improve mobility and safety. The Iowa DOT is replacing the existing interchange with a higher capacity design that will benefit freight trucking, public and commuter traffic, and the rural agriculture and manufacturing economy. Today, this interchange experiences excessive congestion and safety concerns. The project will reconstruct the interchange and add lanes, allowing more vehicles to travel safely and smoothly through the area. A new interchange is also currently under construction on I-380 at Forevergreen Road, approximately 2 miles north of the I-80/I-380 interchange. This new interchange will serve as an emergency alternate route and will allow for turn-around of traffic when the northbound to westbound loop is closed during construction of the I-80/I-380 project. The Forevergreen Road Interchange is scheduled for completion in fall 2019.
