Update: Water main break on southbound Iowa 28 in Des Moines #iatraffic

AMES, Iowa – April 4, 2018 – The Iowa Department of Transportation is reporting that a water main has broken in the median on southbound Iowa 28 south of the Raccoon River and Creston Avenue near mile marker 15 in Des Moines. The left lanes of Iowa 28 are closed in both directions.
Crews are on scene. They hope to have the repairs completed by Thursday night, April 5.
The Iowa DOT is working to keep the southbound lanes of Iowa 28 open, however, as the situation progresses it may be necessary to close them and shift traffic into the northbound lanes into a head to head traffic pattern.
