Intermittent road closures for repairs on Iowa 58 at Viking Road scheduled for Tuesday night, May 22 #iatraffic

NEW HAMPTON, Iowa – May 21, 2018 – Work to repair a median barrier damaged over the weekend will require intermittent road closures on Iowa 58 on the north side of Viking Road from 9 p.m. until midnight on Tuesday, May 22, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s New Hampton construction office.

At the intersection with Viking Road, traffic on Iowa 58 will be directed to go either east or west on Viking Road. There will be a four-way stop with law enforcement and flaggers present to help direct traffic. Dynamic message signs (DMS) will be in place to alert traffic of this closure in advance.

Motorists are encouraged to seek alternative routes to avoid the congestion. Alternate routes for local traffic to avoid Iowa 58 would be via Hudson Road or Cedar Heights Drive. Through traffic may use U.S. 218, U.S. 63 south of U.S. 218, or Hudson Road.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
