Iowa DOT News Release

Traffic shifts on northbound U.S. 63 in Waterloo begin July 2

Posted on: June 29, 2018

NEW HAMPTON, Iowa – June 29, 2018 – Beginning Monday July 2, weather permitting, work to replace utilities and pavement on northbound U.S. 63 in Waterloo will require closing Jefferson Street on both sides of northbound U.S. 63 in downtown Waterloo, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s New Hampton construction office.

Northbound U.S. 63 traffic will continue north one block to Commercial Street, west one block on Commercial and then north on U.S. 63/Mullan Avenue. Both U.S. 63 north- and southbound traffic will continue to use the southbound lanes in a head to head traffic pattern north of Commercial Street. This stage of the project is expected to continue until the end of July.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
