Work continues on the northbound I-35 flyover ramp at U.S. 30 near Ames
AMES, Iowa – June 27, 2018 – The Iowa Department of Transportation’s District 1 Office in Ames is reporting on the construction progress of the northbound Interstate 35 flyover ramp bridge at U.S. 30 near Ames.
Currently, the Iowa DOT is requiring the contractor to make corrections to the bridge piers and abutments prior to setting steel bridge beams. The repairs include correcting bridge pier and abutment elevations and repositioning anchor bolts.
The goal is to open the bridge by the end of 2018. However, the time required to complete the corrections and the remaining amount of work to finish the bridge may result in the bridge being completed in 2019.
As work on the project progresses, intermittent lane closures will be necessary. Special care will be taken to plan closures around peak traffic times and special events that will cause increased traffic in the area. Notification will be given prior to these intermittent closures.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
