CHARITON, Iowa – April 15, 2019 – Portland concrete cement paving and grading work on southbound Interstate 35 in Decatur County will require motorists to share the roadway with head-to-head traffic on the northbound lanes of I-35, between U.S. 69 (exit 4) near Lamoni and Iowa 2 (exit 12) near Decatur City, beginning at 7 a.m. Wednesday, April 24, until Thursday, October 31, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Chariton construction office.
All southbound lanes will be closed for nearly 8.5 miles. There will be an 11-foot lane-width restriction and 16-foot-4-inch height limit on the northbound lane of the shared roadway.
The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
