Iowa DOT News Release

Northbound I-35 north of Oralabor Road in Ankeny reduced to two lanes until early July 2019

Posted on: May 10, 2019

GRIMES, Iowa – May 10, 2019 – As part of the ongoing reconstruction of the Interstate 35 interchange at First Street in Ankeny, northbound I-35 has been reduced to two lanes just south of the First Street interchange. This traffic pattern will be in effect until early July 2019, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Grimes construction office.

In addition, the contractor will close the northbound I-35 exit ramp to First Street in mid-June for approximately three weeks. The ramp closure is required to allow the removal of the existing pavement and to realign the ramp with the new northbound interstate lanes currently under construction.

You can expect delays in the area during this time as the northbound lane reduction has increased traffic backups, especially during the evening commute.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
