MOUNT PLEASANT, Iowa – June 19, 2019 – A culvert replacement project under Iowa 78 (near mile marker 7.2) in Keokuk County will require closing the road to traffic, beginning at 7 a.m. Monday, June 24, until Friday, June 28, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Mount Pleasant construction office.

Motorists will be directed to use an official off-site detour (see map). The 12-mile marked detour will follow Iowa Highway 1, Jefferson County Road H-17, and Jefferson/Keokuk County Road V-63. It is anticipated the detour will be in place for approximately 5 days, weather permitting. Local traffic will have access to Iowa 78 except for the lanes crossing the project area (near mile marker 7.2).

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
