Overnight closure on Iowa 58 at Viking Road in Cedar Falls Sunday, Sept. 29

NEW HAMPTON, Iowa – Sept. 24, 2019 – Work on a two-year project at Iowa 58 and Viking Road in Cedar Falls continues. Beginning at 9 p.m. Sunday night, Sept. 29, until 7 a.m. Monday morning, Sept. 30, weather permitting, Iowa 58 at Viking Road will be closed to allow the contractor to make changes to the traffic configurations at the intersection according to Iowa Department of Transportation’s New Hampton construction office.

Beginning on Monday, Sept. 30, north- and southbound traffic on Iowa 58 at Viking Road will be restricted to a single lane in each direction. Traffic lanes on Viking Road will remain the same with this configuration and will be in place for four weeks as work is completed on the new bridge, intersection, and new signal system.

All left-turn movements for large trucks will be restricted on both Iowa 58 and Viking Road. In mid-October, there will be a two-week period where all traffic turning to the west will be restricted for all traffic.

During the next four weeks, motorists can expect higher than normal traffic delays and may wish to use alternate routes.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
