Temporary nighttime closure on southbound I-35 in Warren County begins at 8 p.m. Friday night, Dec. 20
Chariton, Iowa – Dec. 19, 2019 – A bridge repair project over Interstate 35 requires closing southbound I-35 from the Iowa 5 interchange to the Iowa 92 interchange beginning at 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 20, until 5 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Chariton construction office.
During this closure, motorists will be directed to use an official off-site marked detour following Iowa 5 (east and west), Iowa 28 (south and north), and Iowa 92 (east and west), see map.
After the bridge repair is completed, the Filmore Street bridge over I-35 near mile marker 61.58 will have temporary traffic signals and temporary barrier rail in place until a future bridge project is let to remove and replace the bridge (see diagram).
The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
