Lane shifts on U.S. 20 between Iowa 17 and Webster County Road P-73 near Duncombe begin Thursday, April 23

MASON CITY, Iowa – April 20, 2020 – A pavement replacement project on U.S. 20 near Duncombe is currently underway. On Thursday, April 23, weather permitting, westbound U.S. 20 traffic will be shifted onto one of the eastbound lanes of U.S. 20 in a head-to-head traffic pattern between Iowa 17 and Webster County Road P-73, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Mason City construction office.

During this project, side roads off U.S. 20 to the north will be closed and traffic turning off and onto the side roads to the south will be limited while the head-to-head traffic patterns are in effect. Once the westbound lanes are completed in mid-July, the eastbound lanes of U.S. 20 will be closed and traffic will be shifted onto the newly completed pavement on westbound U.S. 20 in a head-to-head traffic pattern.

Traffic at the Iowa 17 interchange will be maintained via median crossovers during this project.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
