GRIMES, Iowa – May 26, 2020 – Work to widen and reconstruct pavement on northbound/eastbound Interstate 35/80 in Urbandale requires closing the northbound/eastbound I-35/80 entrance ramp at the Douglas Avenue interchange from Monday, June 1, through June 19, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Grimes construction office.
The ramp closure is necessary to allow the contractor to reconstruct the ramp to match up with the additional lanes being added to I-35/80 between the 100th Street interchange and the Douglas Avenue interchange as part of the Urban Loop (formerly Rider Corner) flyover project. Westbound traffic on Douglas Avenue wanting to enter northbound/eastbound I-35/80 will be directed to continue west to 128th Street, continuing onto James Street in Grimes, then north to 37th Street, then south on Iowa 141 to I-35/80.
The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
