WEST DES MOINES, Iowa – Aug. 11, 2020 – Maintenance and painting work on westbound entrance ramps to Interstate 80 in West Des Moines will cause overnight closures beginning Thursday, Aug. 13, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Creston construction office.
The first project involves sealing pavement joints and will cause the closure of the entrance to westbound I-80 at 60th Street overnight on Thursday and Friday, Aug. 13 and 14.
A second project to prepare and paint markings on the ramps and pavement on westbound I-80 at 60th Street requires closing the entrance ramp to traffic beginning at midnight until 5 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 16. The exit ramp from I-80 to Jordan Creek Parkway will also be closed for up to two hours on Sunday, Aug. 16.
The final project is set to begin at midnight on Monday, Aug. 17, until 5 a.m., where the westbound entrance ramp at the I-80 and Grand Prairie Parkway interchange will be closed to traffic so crews can paint markings on the ramp and pavement.
The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
