SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Sept. 2, 2020 – Pavement rehabilitation projects on U.S. 71 and Iowa 86 will require lane closures weekdays from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. beginning Thursday morning, Sept. 10, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s District 3 Office.
The first project is located on U.S 71 between 202nd Street in West Okoboji and 41st Street in Spirit Lake. During this pavement patching project, motorists will be directed through the work zone with a pilot car. Iowa Civil Contracting, Inc. of Victor, Iowa is the prime contractor of this $373,951 project which is anticipated to be completed on Friday, Oct. 23.
Milling, pavement patching, paved shoulders, and hot-mix asphalt resurfacing on Iowa 86 from U.S. 71 to Iowa 9 will require lane closures beginning Monday, Sept. 14. Traffic will be directed through the work zone with a pilot car. Blacktop Service CO & Subsidiary of Humboldt is the prime contractor of this $2.9 million project. This project is anticipated to be completed in November.
The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
