Ramp closures and head to head traffic on U.S. 20 from U.S. 63 to Iowa 21 in Waterloo beginning Thursday, April 15

NEW HAMPTON, Iowa – April 9, 2021 – Removal and replacement of pavement will occur on eastbound U.S. 20 from U.S. 63 to Iowa 21 in Waterloo, beginning Thursday, April 15, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s New Hampton construction office.

This phase of the project will result in head to head traffic in the westbound U.S. 20 lanes and the following ramp closures on eastbound U.S. 20:

  • U.S. 63 exit and entrance ramps
  • Ansborough Ave. exit and entrance ramps
  • Iowa 21 exit and entrance ramps

Marked detours will be in place to assist traffic through the area, and message boards will provide advanced notice of this work.

This phase of the project is expected to be completed by early July, with the entire project expected to be completed by mid-November, weather permitting.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
