Update: Nighttime lane closures on I-35 in Warren County begin Wednesday, May 19

CHARITON, Iowa – May 11, 2021 – Nighttime construction work to remove the Fillmore Street bridge over Interstate 35 in Warren County will require closing north- and southbound I-35 for up to six nights from the junction with Iowa 92 (exit 56) to the junction with Iowa 5 (exit 68) from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly from Wednesday, May 19, through Wednesday, May 26, weather permitting according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Chariton construction office.

Southbound I-35 nighttime lane closures are scheduled for:

  • Wednesday, May 19
  • Thursday, May 20

Northbound I-35 nighttime lane closures are scheduled for:

  • Friday, May 21
  • Monday, May 24
  • Tuesday, May 25
  • Wednesday, May 26

During these nighttime lane closures, traffic will be guided around the work zone by digital message boards and a marked detour using Iowa 5, Iowa 28 and Iowa 92 (see map).

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
