FAIRFIELD, Iowa – June 30, 2021 – A sewer system project on U.S. 65 in the Wayne County community of Humeston will require closing the road to through traffic beginning Wednesday,  July 6 at noon and continuing until Friday, July 16 at noon, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Fairfield District Office.

The city’s sewer project will require closing the road at 403 S. Front Street (near U.S. 65 mile marker 19.40), and then closing the road at 107 S. Front Street (near U.S. 65 mile marker 19.66).

Detour Route: Thru traffic will be directed to use an official off-site detour. The detour will follow U.S. 34 (east and west for 8.6 miles), Iowa 14 (north and south for 17 miles), Iowa 2 (east and west for 9.6 miles) and then back onto U.S. 65 (see map).

Local traffic will have access to U.S. 65 except for the lanes crossing the project area near U.S. 65 mile marker 19.40 and mile marker 19.66.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
