CHARITON, Iowa – June 29, 2021 – Removal and replacement of a reinforced concrete box culvert on Iowa 14, 2.3 miles south of Chariton, in Lucas County, will require closing the road to traffic beginning at 8 a.m. Monday, July 19, until late-August, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Chariton construction office.
Detour Route: Motorists will be directed to use an official off-site detour. The detour will follow Iowa 14 (north and south for about 14.6 miles), Iowa 2 (east and west for about 9.6 miles), U.S. 65 (north and south about 19 miles), and U.S. 34 (east and west about 8.6 miles). Local traffic will have access to Iowa 14 except for the lanes crossing the project area near mile marker 14.6 (see map).
The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
