Update: Iowa 28/U.S. 6/Merle Hay Road in Des Moines rescheduled for closure on Friday night, June 18

GRIMES, Iowa – June 11, 2021 – A project to repave Iowa 28/U.S. 6/Merle Hay Road between Hickman Road and Urbandale Avenue in Des Moines requires closing the roadway to traffic from 10 p.m. Friday, June 18, until 5 a.m. Monday, June 21, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Grimes construction office.

During this closure, motorists will follow a marked detour route using Hickman Road, 48th Street, and Urbandale Avenue.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
