FAIRFIELD, Iowa – Aug. 31, 2021 – Repairs at the Union Pacific Railroad crossing on Iowa 23/ South 17th Street in University Park east of Oskaloosa will require closing the roadway to traffic from 8 a.m. Monday, Sept. 13, until Monday morning, Sept. 20, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Office of Rail Transportation.
Motorists will be directed to use an official off-site detour (see detour map below). The three-mile marked detour will follow Iowa 92 and Osburn Avenue. It is anticipated the detour will be in place for approximately a week, weather permitting. Local traffic will have access to Iowa 23 except for the lanes at the railroad crossing (near mile marker 14.85).
The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
