SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Sept. 16, 2021 – A bridge deck overlay project on Interstate 129 in Sioux City requires closing the ramp from eastbound U.S. 20 to northbound I-29 and the loop from northbound I-29 to westbound U.S. 20 at 10 a.m. Tuesday, September 21, for approximately six weeks, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s District 3 Office.
Two ramps that are currently closed are expected to reopen prior to the ramp closing the ramp noted above. The northbound I-29 to westbound I-129/U.S. 20 ramp should reopen on Saturday, Sept. 18, and the eastbound to southbound I-29 ramp should reopen Tuesday, Sept. 21.
During this project, eastbound U.S. 20 to southbound I-29 traffic will be detoured to Lakeport Road, to westbound U.S. 20, and to northbound I-29. (see map).
The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
