Temporary closure of U.S. 18 west of the east junction with U.S. 52 in Clayton County begins Wednesday, March 1
NEW HAMPTON, Iowa – Feb. 23, 2023 – A bridge deck replacement project on a U.S. 18 bridge 0.6 miles west of the east junction with U.S. 52 in Clayton County will require closing the roadway to traffic beginning on Wednesday, March 1, until early fall, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s New Hampton construction office.
During this project, traffic will be routed onto a marked detour route using Clayton County roads X-28 and B-60, Iowa 13, and U.S. 52.
The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
