Overnight full closure of eastbound I-80 at the 1st Avenue interchange (exit 242) in Johnson County begins on Monday, March 27
DAVENPORT, Iowa – March 22, 2023 – Drivers on Interstate 80 in Coralville should be aware of an upcoming construction project that may slow down their trip beginning on Monday night, March 27, weather permitting.
Construction crews need to remove the existing northbound 1st Avenue Bridge over I-80. To remove the bridge, crews will need to close eastbound I-80 in the area of exit 242 each night from Monday, March 28 to Thursday, March 30. The closure will start each night at 11 p.m. and run through the next morning at 5 a.m. Drivers will follow the marked detour off I-80 (exit 242) onto the exit ramp and then take the entrance ramp to get back onto eastbound I-80.
A similar closure will be in place to remove the westbound bridge in the same area starting on April 3. Westbound I-80 will be closed each night from Monday, April 3 to Thursday, April 6. The closures will start each night at 11 p.m. and run until 5 a.m. the next morning. Drivers on westbound I-80 will follow the marked detour off I-80 (exit 242) by driving onto the exit ramp and then take the entrance ramp to get back onto westbound I-80.
Help keep everyone on the road safer. Drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, you should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
