Daytime road closure on the Iowa 415 mile-long bridge near Polk City scheduled for Sept. 4

Des Moines, Iowa – Aug. 29, 2024 – If you drive on the Iowa 415 mile-long bridge over Saylorville Lake near Polk City you should be aware of an upcoming project that may slow down your trip. Daytime maintenance work to inspect the bridge will require closing the road and bridge from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 4, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Des Moines maintenance office.

When the road and bridge are closed, you are encouraged to use Northwest 26th Street, Northwest 66th Avenue, and Northwest Beaver Drive to get around the closure (see map).

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
