Deck joint repairs on U.S. 218 ramp bridge over Cedar River Overflow begin October 7
NEW HAMPTON, Iowa – Sept. 27, 2024 – Deck joint repairs on the U.S. 218 ramp bridge over the Cedar River Overflow at the interchange with Iowa 58 in Cedar Falls will begin October 7, 2024. The project is expected to be completed by mid-November, weather permitting.
To ensure the safety of workers and motorists, the ramp will be closed during the repair period.
Traffic heading northbound on U.S. 218 and southbound on Iowa 58/Iowa 27 will be detoured. A marked detour route will guide drivers through Broadway Street, Airport Boulevard, West Airline Highway, Leversee Road, and East Lone Tree Road.
Advance message boards will be placed along the routes to inform drivers of the upcoming closure.
The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
