Lane shifts on I-380 in Cedar Rapids begin this weekend
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Sept. 6, 2024 – If you drive on Interstate 380 in Cedar Rapids you need to be aware of an upcoming construction project that may slow down your trip, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Cedar Rapids construction office.
Beginning on Saturday, Sept. 7, weather permitting, crews will shift traffic on southbound I-380 from mile marker 20 to 21.5 between the Cedar River and the H Avenue exit so joint repairs to the pavement can be made. Next week, crews will shift traffic on the northbound lanes. Two lane shifts will happen on both the south- and northbound directions to get both sides of the bridge repaired.
At 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 13 until 5 a.m. Monday, Sept. 16, there will be two lanes of traffic on southbound I-380. This lane reduction will alternate directions each weekend for four weekends.
The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
