Lane closures on I-235 between 31st Street and Hull Avenue in Des Moines scheduled for Friday morning, Jan. 17
AMES, Iowa – Jan. 15, 2025 – If you travel on Interstate 235 between 31st Street and Hull Avenue you need to be aware of lane closures that will occur from 9 a.m. to noon on Friday, Jan. 17, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation.
Crews from the District 1 paint crew with assistance from the Iowa State Patrol need to close the inside two lanes of east- and westbound I-235 to traffic so skip dashes from the center lane can be painted on the roadway. This type of work is normally performed during nighttime hours, but the combination of sunlight and higher temperatures is needed for the paint to be applied properly.
While painting is being done, you will drive in the far-right lane of east- and westbound I-235. This slow-moving paint operation will move at approximately 10 mph. Advanced warning messages will be placed on digital message signs to assist you as you travel through the work zone.
The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
