About the Project

Online meeting

Project description

The Iowa Department of Transportation is requesting public input for proposed highway improvements on Iowa 92 from east of U.S. 218 to 2nd Street, in Columbus Junction, and public input on the project’s right-of-way needs and off-site detour. The proposed 8.7-mile project will remove the existing pavement and reconstruct mainline pavement and shoulders to provide a 24-foot-wide roadway with 10-foot-wide shoulders.

The proposed project includes geometry improvements to curves and intersections to modernize the highway and improve mobility and safety. New drainage structures, edgeline, and centerline rumble strips will be constructed. Access improvements along the length of the project are planned. The project is anticipated to take place during the 2023 construction season.

Through traffic on Iowa 92 would be detoured during construction using U.S. 218 (south and north) to Iowa 22 (east and west), then to Iowa 70 (south and north). It is anticipated the detour will be in place for the majority of the construction. Local traffic will have access to Iowa 92.
