NEW HAMPTON, Iowa – Oct. 13, 2016 – The much anticipated interchange of U.S. 218 and Black Hawk County Road C-57 south of Janesville is now scheduled to open by noon on Friday, Oct. 14, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s New Hampton construction office.

Starting Oct. 14, access to U.S 218 from Mount Vernon Road, Bennington Road, and Gresham Road will be permanently closed. Work to remove these at-grade intersections will require intermittent nighttime lane closures, intermittent daytime lane closures during off peak hours, and shoulder closures on U.S. 218. Work to close these intersections is expected to be completed by early November, weather permitting.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
